Tina Morgan
What
In this workshop, participants will reconnect with a piece of art they produced as a teenager or as a young adult. We'll discuss the mindset for engaging with past work in an empathetic and thoughtful way, with ideas for how to approach, edit, and expand on the work, with some examples from notable artists. After our discussion and two guided journaling exercises, participants will leave with a blueprint for a new (old!) project.
Participants should come with an old piece in mind and whatever they need to reference it: physical objects or texts, or digital text or images that they can access on their phones. Artists of any kind are welcome.
When
Friday, August 29, 2:00 - 3:30 PM
Where
School of Art and Time, near SE 34th & SE Belmont, Portland, Oregon, United States. This event happens in the communal backyard space of an old house. Details on how to get to the space will be provided upon sign-up. The house indoor space is not available except for bathroom access during workshops. Stumptown Coffee on Belmont and Laurelhurst Park are the nearest public restrooms.
Why
As artists, looking back at work we produced when we were younger can be a complicated exercise. But beyond the nostalgia (and the cringe) is an opportunity to reexamine our feelings, our thoughts, our style, and our fascinations from previous eras, engage in an active conversation with them, and create a collaboration between these two vital selves.
How
The workshop is offered at a sliding scale of $0.00-$13.12 to defray the cost of other free programming. There are limited slots. If you have any questions, send a message to Tina Morgan at Tina.i.morgan@gmail.com
